Inaugural Transform Dental Sleep Symposium Announced
Much of my time at the 2023 version of a specific dental sleep meeting in Philadelphia was spent listening to dentists voice their disdain for the meeting. Most – not all – of the speakers just read their slides on scientific research without clearly connecting it to clinical applications. The vendor floor featured many – again, not all – companies that didn’t provide innovative solutions to the problems their practices face.
Then, there were the vendors themselves. Geezus Louisus, they had a thing or 10 to say about the meeting. They were physically on another level – like, literally on another floor from the dentists they wanted to meet with. Food wasn’t readily accessible, booth costs were outrageous, they’re prohibited from entering the lectures to learn alongside their clients, and… just ask them. They’ll tell you. I asked many of these same vendors about other sleep meetings. They said they’d all gotten stale.
Dental sleep professionals talked. We listened. It’s time for a change.
Here’s the deal. Most Dental Sleep Medicine meetings feature boring speakers on topics that are overly academic or don’t apply to your practice. Many of these meetings are organized by companies or organizations with strictly business motives. That leads to too much selling from the podium and hidden agendas.
